Terms of Service
Last updated: 2026-08-08 · Effective: 2026-08-08
These terms govern your use of the DualRead app and related services. By installing or using DualRead, you agree to them. Please read the sections on coins, subscriptions and acceptable use carefully.
1. Who we are
DualRead is operated by Aloshyna Anastasiia, a registered individual entrepreneur (FOP) in Ukraine (“we”, “us”). If you do not agree with these terms, do not use the app.
2. The service
DualRead lets you open e-books, translate them with AI, and read the original and translation together. Translation can run either through your own AI provider key (BYOK) or through our coin/subscription service. Features and supported formats may change over time.
Acceptable use
The service exists to translate the texts you open in the app. When you use our coins or subscription, you agree not to use it for anything else — in particular, not to reach our AI providers through us outside the app, not to send instructions in place of book text, and not to automate requests beyond ordinary reading and translation.
We enforce technical limits on how much auxiliary text a request may carry and how often requests may be made. If we find systematic misuse, we may restrict or end access to the account — see «Termination». None of this applies to your own provider key (BYOK): there you deal with the provider directly, on their terms.
3. Your account
You sign in with Google. You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age required to form a binding contract in your country, whichever is higher) to use the app. You are responsible for keeping access to your Google account secure and for all activity that occurs under your account.
4. Coins, subscriptions and payments
Coins
Coins are a prepaid credit used to translate chapters. The cost of a translation depends on the length of the source text and the quality tier you choose. You can purchase additional coins at any time as a one-time in-app purchase through Google Play.
Subscriptions
Subscriptions are billed through Google Play on a recurring basis. Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period at the then-current price unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date. You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time in your Google Play account settings.
There are two kinds of coins, and different rules apply to each.
Purchased coins (one-time packs) do not expire. They stay in your balance until you spend them, and they are not forfeited when a subscription is cancelled or at any point afterwards.
Coins granted by a subscription roll over to the following periods while the subscription is active, but the total balance of such coins cannot exceed three times the monthly allowance of your plan. If the cap has already been reached at the time of a grant, the excess is not credited. After a subscription is cancelled or expires, coins granted by that subscription stay usable for 60 days from the date of expiry, after which they are forfeited.
When you translate, purchased coins are spent first, and coins granted by a subscription second.
Pricing
Coin and subscription prices may change over time. We will give reasonable advance notice of any price increase — either in the app or by email — before the change takes effect for existing subscribers. Continued use after a price change constitutes acceptance of the new price.
Refunds
Failed translations are refunded automatically in coins. If all providers fail on a chapter, the coins for that chapter are returned to your balance immediately.
We do not offer monetary refunds for coin purchases or subscription fees, except where required by applicable law or by the policies of the platform through which you purchased. Refund requests must be submitted directly to Google Play; we have no ability to issue refunds outside of their platform.
How to request one. In the Google Play app: profile → “Payments & subscriptions” → “Budget & order history” → select the purchase → “Report a problem”. The same is available at play.google.com. For the first 48 hours the decision is made by Google; after that the request is passed on to us.
Cancelling a subscription is not the same as a refund. After cancellation the subscription remains active until the end of the period you have already paid for, that payment is not returned, and the coins already granted stay on your balance under the terms described above. You can cancel in the app (the coins section) or directly in Google Play.
Coins granted by a subscription are considered consumed as they are used. If you have used some or all of the coins granted for a billing period, you are not entitled to a refund of that period’s subscription fee, as the service has been partially or fully provided. If a refund is nonetheless granted by the platform, any remaining unused coins from that subscription period will be revoked from your balance.
Welcome bonus
New users may receive a one-time starter coin bonus.
Coins have no cash value, are non-transferable and cannot be exchanged for money.
5. Your content and copyright responsibility
DualRead is a reading tool. We do not host, sell, distribute or supply books or any other copyrighted content. All files you open in the app are sourced and stored by you on your own device.
You represent and warrant that you have the legal right to use and translate every file you import into DualRead — whether that right comes from purchase, licence, open licence (e.g. Creative Commons or public domain), or another lawful basis. Translating a copyrighted work without the rights holder’s permission may itself constitute copyright infringement under the laws of your country; that responsibility rests entirely with you.
You agree not to:
- import or translate content you do not have the right to use;
- use DualRead to infringe any third party’s intellectual property rights;
- use the app for any unlawful purpose;
- attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape or systematically extract content from the translation service;
- circumvent rate limits, spending caps or other technical measures.
We do not claim ownership of your books or the translations produced from them. We reserve the right to suspend accounts that we reasonably believe are being used to infringe third-party rights.
6. Bring-your-own-key (BYOK)
If you use your own AI provider key, you are responsible for that key and for any costs and terms your provider charges. We are not responsible for third-party provider availability, pricing, or output when you use your own key.
7. Intellectual property
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the DualRead app for your own non-commercial reading. You may not copy, modify, distribute or reverse-engineer any part of the app. All rights not expressly granted remain with us.
8. Translation quality
Translations are produced by AI models and are provided “as is”. They may contain errors, omissions or awkward phrasing and should not be relied upon where accuracy is critical (for example, legal, medical or safety contexts).
9. Availability
We aim to keep the service running but do not guarantee uninterrupted availability. We may change, suspend or discontinue parts of the service, and we may perform maintenance that temporarily affects translation.
10. Disclaimer of warranties
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the service is provided “as is” and “as available” without any warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to:
- the accuracy, completeness or fitness for purpose of any AI-generated translation;
- the continuous or error-free availability of the service or any third-party AI provider;
- the suitability of translations for use in legal, medical, financial, safety-critical or any other professional context;
- the availability, reliability or pricing of Google Play, Google Drive, Google AdMob or any other third-party service we depend on;
- the fitness of the BYOK feature for any particular AI provider’s terms or rate limits.
Nothing in this section limits rights that cannot be excluded under applicable consumer law (including the Australian Consumer Law).
11. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any:
- loss or damage arising from reliance on an AI-generated translation;
- copyright infringement claim resulting from content you import or translate;
- costs, overage charges or other fees incurred through a BYOK API key;
- loss of books, reading progress or bookmarks stored on your device or in your Google Drive;
- outage, error or change in policy of Google Play, Google Drive, Google AdMob or any AI provider;
- indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss or damage of any kind.
Our total liability for any claim arising under these terms shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose. Nothing in these terms limits rights that cannot be excluded under applicable mandatory consumer law.
12. Termination
You may stop using DualRead and delete your account at any time from within the app. We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these terms or use the service abusively. Sections 7, 10 and 11 survive termination.
13. Governing law and global use
These terms are governed by the laws of Ukraine, without limiting the mandatory consumer-protection rights you have in your country of residence, and without regard to conflict-of-law rules. If any provision of these terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in full force.
The service is not intended for use in countries or territories subject to comprehensive international sanctions. Access from such territories is not authorised.
DualRead is otherwise available worldwide. If you use the app from a country whose laws prohibit or restrict it, you do so at your own risk and responsibility. We make no representation that the service is appropriate or available in all locations.
Regardless of governing law, nothing in these terms affects any mandatory rights you have under the consumer protection laws of your own country that cannot be contractually waived (including, without limitation, EU consumer law, the Australian Consumer Law, Canadian provincial consumer protection legislation, or the UK Consumer Rights Act 2015).
14. Force majeure
We are not liable for any failure or delay in performing our obligations where that failure or delay results from causes beyond our reasonable control, including but not limited to: outages of third-party AI providers or Google services, internet infrastructure failures, natural disasters, government actions, or other events of force majeure. In such cases we will resume performance as soon as reasonably practicable.
15. Changes
We may update these terms. The new version will be posted here with an updated date, and we will announce material changes in the app or by email at least 14 days before they take effect; continued use after that means you accept them.
